The Campaign for Georgia State University: Results

Georgia State University marked the successful end of the university's first-ever comprehensive fund-raising campaign during a public celebration November 5th, 2004, held in the Student Center Ballroom.

The campaign's goal was to raise $125 million in private giving for Georgia State's academic programs, professorships and endowed chairs, scholarships and facilities. The final campaign total, $127 million, exceeds that amount. Nearly $29 million of that was raised by Robinson College.

"I'm particularly proud that the ultimate goal of the 'Results' campaign was accomplished during my term as chairman of the Georgia State University Foundation," said Michael D. Easterly, chairman and CEO of Legacy Securities Corp. and Legacy Investment Group Inc. "This is a new high-water mark for the Georgia State community. Everyone involved has much to be proud about, and I want to personally thank all of our donors."

Some highlights of the campaign include:

  • $18.45 million for merit- and need-based scholarship for students
  • $18.9 million to establish 27 professorships and endowed chairs, which help the university recruit and retain faculty.
  • $43.2 million to fund academic programs and centers where students and scholars are addressing critical needs in business, education, law, policy studies, health care delivery, and the arts and sciences.

"I want to thank the entire Georgia State community for their help in making this  campaign a success." said Georgia State President Carl Patton. "Eighty-seven percent of Georgia State's faculty and staff gave a personal gift to this campaign. These same employees show their devotion to the university and its students every day."
