Key Purpose
The purpose of the Center is to:
- enhance research on business issues in developing economies.
- encourage cross-disciplinary and collaborative activities of faculty and students around development issues.
- focus college-level, third-party funded outreach in developing economies.
- bring greater visibility to the College's already successful development work in transitional economies.
This Center takes advantage of the existing strengths, synergy created through collaborative efforts of all the units of RCB and leverage provided by external funding to design and implement projects that enhance developing/emerging economies and benefit RCB. The themes of the center are sustainable as proven by a decade-long stream of activities in the developing economies largely financed by federal grants.
The Center also pursues the related themes of "peace through commerce," "globalization, peace and sustainable development," and "globalization with a human face." The Center facilitates exchange of ideas and research on the role of international business in mediating and promoting sustainable development and peace. For example, the Center encourages investigation of impact of investments and social programs of multi-nationals as well as how to grow the business while promoting the well-being of societies abroad. These efforts aim at developing policy recommendations.
This Center draws on faculty from diverse departments of RCB and GSU as well as external practitioners. In particular, the Center draws on the core faculty who have participated in the College's international projects and are interested in continuation and expansion of activities in the developing economies.
