Competing on Services - Where Are We Headed
There is considerable discussion in the management literature about organizations becoming "process oriented." Well-intended as it may be, this discussion misses the mark on what's really needed. Mature economies are overwhelmingly service-based; emerging economies are rapidly becoming so. As product markets become commoditized, services provide the high-value differentiation. For reasons of market, organizational agility and business-IT alignment, among others, a Service-Oriented Enterprise (SOE) view is needed if organizations are going to successfully compete. This talk will outline some of the main reasons for, and concepts behind what is meant by SOE.

MARTA: Moving Atlanta Today, Preparing for Tomorrow
Each day, nearly half a million trips are taken on MARTA. That number will continue to grow as congestion worsens, population increases, and people realize that the system is a viable option for reaching their destination. MARTA is working hard to ensure that today's customers have a smooth ride and the system is prepared for tomorrow's growth. Ending two consecutive fiscal years with an operating surplus, installing the nation's first all smart card fare collection system, and making improvements to customer service and transit delivery are just some of the recent accomplishments that will be discussed.

A stop payment of a check does not constitute a formal cancellation. Registrants who do not attend the conference and have not cancelled one day prior to the conference are liable for the entire registration fee but will be mailed conference materials.
SUBSTITUTION POLICY: If an annual subscriber cannot attend the conference, another person from the same company can substitute in the subscriber's place.

BIO-Ronald J. Henry has been in his current position as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Georgia State University since July 1994.
Dr. Henry is involved extensively in state and national education policy and action committees, including University System of Georgia, state and local P-16, NASULGC Chief Academic Officers, Committee on Undergraduate Science Education of the National Research Council, NCATE Appeals Board, and SREB National Leadership Council.
Professor Henry is the principal investigator for the Quality in Undergraduate Education project funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts and the ExxonMobil Foundation. He is also the principal investigator on a Standards-based Teacher Education Project funded by CBE, AACTE and by a Title II grant for the University System of Georgia. Henry holds a Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics from Queens University of Belfast, North Ireland..

Prakash Loungani

BIO- An economist by training, Prakash Loungani is Advisor in the IMF's External Relations Department. His work experience includes stints at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington D.C, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and the University of Florida.
His research interests include: assessment of macroeconomic forecasting performance; understanding trade linkages among nations and regions; modeling the impact of oil prices on the macroeconomy. This research has been published in both academic journals (including Journal of Monetary Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Applied Econometrics and International Journal of Forecasting) and in various policy outlets and newspapers (such as Financial Times).
Loungani received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Bombay (India) and a Ph.D in Economics from the University of Rochester.

Joselyn Baker

BIO- As the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority's Assistant General Manager of Communications, Joselyn Baker serves as the agency's chief spokesperson and manages its overall communications programs. The position coordinates the offices of Marketing & Sales, Government & Community Relations, and Customer & Station Services, as well as the media relations and internal communications functions. Baker joined MARTA as its first Director of Communications in August 2004. Prior to that, she worked for a variety of corporate and non-profit clients as a communications consultant.
Baker served as Press Secretary for former Georgia Governor Roy E. Barnes, where she was deeply involved in a wide range of quality of life and economic development issues, including transportation. She has served as an advisor to a number of Georgia leaders including United States Senator Johnny Isakson, Attorney General Thurbert Baker, and then-Georgia Governor Zell Miller.
Baker was named one of Georgia's "40 Under 40" young leaders by Georgia Trend magazine in 2001. She is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and a graduate and former trustee of Oglethorpe University.
