Greg Henley is the Director of the Herman J. Russell, Sr. Center for Entrepreneurship at Georgia State University. His background includes entrepreneurial experience both as a practitioner and as an academic. After working for large organizations, such as Chemical Bank and Procter and Gamble, he was one of the first employees hired by an entrepreneurial-minded insurance company to be its Treasurer. While there, he also took the initiative to start a mortgage company.
Prior to joining Georgia State University, Dr. Henley was a Visiting Professor at the University of South Florida’s (USF) Center for Entrepreneurship. At USF, he taught entrepreneurship courses and established numerous relationships, especially with entrepreneurial ventures, within the Tampa Bay business community. Before USF, Dr. Henley was an Assistant Professor of Management at the University of Tampa. One of his accomplishments at the University of Tampa was to help start the Entrepreneurship undergraduate major. He has also consulted with new ventures, helping entrepreneurs to get their ventures off the ground.
Dr. Henley received his doctorate is from Columbia Business School with a concentration in Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship. He also earned an MBA in Finance from Columbia Business School and a BS in Management from MIT. His teaching at the undergardate and graduate level has included courses in Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management.
Before entering academia, Dr. Henley had over 15 years of professional work in finance and in the financial services industry. He was President of a bank holding company that was started when he acquired a Tampa Bay based community bank. Other banking experience includes being one of the founders of an Alabama bank where he served as Chief Financial Officer, a member of the Board of Directors as well as several committees of the Board. As a senior officer and member of the Executive Committee, he was responsible for overall bank policy and strategic direction.
Dr. Henley also founded Investment Strategies Unlimited, Inc. to consult for individuals and small businesses. Consulting assignments included providing wealth management services, evaluating bank acquisitions, working with de novo banks, E-commerce start-ups and implementing the installation of a web site for a bank client.
