Institute of Health Administration

About Us

Healthcare continues to experience profound change. Navigating through this highly competitive, market-driven world of healthcare requires more sophisticated management skills than ever. Career opportunities in healthcare administration, management and executive leadership are abundant. The Institute of Health Administration (IHA) within the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University prepares graduates to assume top-level executive positions in complex health services organizations.

Graduates of our programs are trained to think and act strategically, and to use highly refined analytic and problem-solving skills to meet the need for effective leadership in the healthcare industry.

Programs Offered

The institute offers four degree program options:

  1. The popular dual degree, Master of Business Administration and Master of Health Administration (MBA/MHA), is a 66-semester hour program that combines the disciplines of business with applications in healthcare settings of all kinds, together with 6 credit hours of experiential learning as either an administrative residency or field study. This program is designed for those who aspire to careers as a general healthcare executive. It can be completed in two years as a full-time student.
  2. The Master of Science in Health Administration (MSHA) is a 36-semester hour program that requires students to concentrate in an area of business. This program is designed to meet the needs of students who aspire to a healthcare career in a specified area of business (e.g., healthcare marketing or healthcare finance).  Also available is a JD/MSHA.
  3. The Master of Business Administration with Health Administration Concentration is a 45-semester hour program designed for those who desire a business-oriented graduate program with a healthcare focus.
  4. The Professional MBA/Master of Health Administration (PMBA/MHA) is a seven-semester lock-step cohort designed for rising healthcare professionals who aspire to broaden their understanding of the industry and move into an executive leadership role in their organization. Candidates must have approximately four years of full-time work experience.
