Biography
Dr. Scott is Professor of Law with a joint appointment in Georgia State University's College of Law and J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Institute of Health Administration. She is also the Director of the Center for Law, Health & Society at the College of Law. Professor Scott teaches various courses on health care law and policy, bioethics, and tort law. She is also a Faculty Fellow in Health Law with Emory University's Center for Ethics, where she joins an interdisciplinary faculty team to offer clinical ethics classes for third-year medical students.

Professor Scott has served as Chair of the American Bar Association Health Law Section's Interest Group on Medical Research, Biotechnology, and Clinical Ethics. She has also served as Chair of the Health Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia, and for many years served as the Editor of that Section's bi-annual publication on federal and state health law developments. She has given national and regional presentations on health law topics to legal and medical audiences, including the American Bar Association, American Health Lawyers Association, Federal Judicial Center, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics, State Bar of Georgia, Georgia Academy of Healthcare Attorneys, and the Health Care Ethics Consortium of Georgia. She has published on a variety of health law issues, including antitrust and the health care field, medical ethics and the law, medical privacy, and health policy.

Professor Scott is committed to expanding the opportunities for lawyers and health care professionals to work and learn together about issues at the intersection of law, health, ethics, and public policy. The Center for Law, Health & Society, which Professor Scott directs, fosters strong educational programs to equip graduate students in law and the health professions to meet society's many health challenges in the 21st century. The Center also supports collaboration among multi-disciplinary faculty and practitioners whose research and professional work can help to improve health and the health care system.

One illustration of this commitment is the educational and community outreach project known as the Health Law Partnership (HeLP), an interdisciplinary collaboration among Georgia State Law's Center for Law, Health & Society, the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to improve the health of low-income children and their families in metropolitan Atlanta through on-site legal services clinics at Children's hospitals. By combining the health care expertise of hospital professionals with the legal expertise of attorneys, HeLP can provide a coordinated and integrated set of services to address the multiple determinants of low-income children's health.
