Wal-Mart faces dozens of lawsuits over its employment practices in a discrimination case being brought by 1.6 million workers against the world's largest retailer. COST OF INSURING WORKERS IN IRAQ
Firms with contracts to work in Iraq did not realize just how costly it would be to insure workers in the war-torn country. According to reports, some companies have seen increased insurance bills from $5,000 per month to more than $14,000 per month. Harold Skipper, professor and former chair
of the Risk Management and Insurance Department, was quoted on this issue in the Associated Press, The Miami Herald, Dow Jones News Service, the Commercial Appeal (Memphis) and the Oakland Tribune.
WACHOVIA PURCHASES SOUTHTRUST
Wachovia Bank jump-started its entry into the Texas market with a $14 billion deal to purchase regional SouthTrust. William Bogner, assistant professor of managerial sciences, was tapped for his expertise on this topic by the Associated Press, Tulsa World, Grand Rapids Press and WAGA-TV (the FOX affiliate in Atlanta).
