Board of Advisors Professorship Awarded to Vijay Vaishnavi
Vijay K. Vaishnavi has been awarded the Board of Advisors Professorship in Computer Information Systems. This professorship honors Vaishnavi’s achievements in the advancement of knowledge in Computer Information Systems and the international reputation that his scholarship has brought to the Robinson College of Business and Georgia State University.
Vaishnavi holds a secondary appointment as professor of Computer Science at Georgia State University. He has an international reputation for his work on object modeling of knowledge-based systems, formal and informal software specifications, efficient data structures, and computational geometry. He has been a consultant to various companies and organizations, including IBM, AT&T, Bell Northern Research and the National Science Foundation. Vaishnavi, an IEEE Fellow, has published extensively in leading journals. He is currently an Executive Editor of Information Systems International Journal of Intelligent Information Technologies, and Advisory Editor for Data and Knowledge Engineering, and on the Editorial Board of Computing Letters.
THE ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT IS ALIVE AT ROBINSON
Four Robinson students took home the "gold" and "silver" in two separate business plan competitions sponsored by the Herman J. Russell Sr. International Center for Entrepreneurship.
Edlyn Lewis was awarded the Herman J. Russell New Venture Award for MediaTel, a one-to-one marketing channel using cutting-edge wireless technology. Lewis received $5,000 for her plan. Chris Sullivan was the runner-up in the Russell New Venture Award. Sullivan received $1,000 for his business plan for Flexmerch, a scalable platform that allows small-to-medium sized businesses to conduct secure e-commerce transactions without the necessity of internal IT support.
Tony Calobrisi was awarded the Moses Lee Reid Entrepreneurship Award for Rx Solutions, a fully managed point-of-care drug-dispensing service. Calobrisi received $5,000 for his winning plan. Eric Lucan was the runner-up in the Reid Entrepreneurship Award. Lucan received $1,000 for his plan for Metro Atlanta Automart, a service that enables the direct sale of used automobiles.
The Herman J. Russell New Venture Award is sponsored by an endowment from Herman J. Russell, and the Moses Lee Reid Entrepreneurship Award is sponsored through an endowment by Robinson alum Kenneth Reid and is named for his father.
