Oil Prices on the Rise
Oil prices have been measuring at record levels, and the questions seem to be when will things get better and how will this affect an already fragile economy? Rajeev Dhawan, director of the Economic Forecasting Center, has offered his insights recently to several media outlets, including USA Today, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, CNN, WXIA-TV, WABE radio (Atlanta’s NPR affiliate), WAGA-TV and WSB radio.
MBA Trends in the News
For the past three years, applicants for full-time MBA programs have declined as students opt for part-time, executive, and non-U.S. programs. Dean Huss was tapped by BusinessWeek magazine for his thoughts on the topic. Huss told BusinessWeek that "as the economies in [India and China] continue to develop, we ought to see an increase in activity in the MBA. The [b-school application] growth is going to be international."
Secondhand Smoke Costs U.S. Billions
A new study by Don Behan, senior research associate at the Center for Risk Management and Insurance Research at Robinson, and the Society of Actuaries on the economic effects of secondhand smoke, received a lot of attention from the media. The study found that the annual cost of excess medical care, mortality and morbidity from secondhand smoke exposure in the United States is approximately $10 billion. Media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, Reuters, NPR and CNN talked to Behan about his findings.
