Four Faculty Receive National
Accounting Honors
Robinson faculty members Lawrence D. Brown, the J. Mack Robinson Distinguished
Professor of Accountancy; Ernest R. Larkins, Alumni Professor of Accountancy; Julian Diaz III,
professor and chair of the real estate department; and R. Lynn Hannan, associate professor
of accountancy, were honored at this year’s American Accounting Association’s (AAA)
annual meeting on August 6 in Washington, D.C.
Brown received the AAA’s Outstanding Educator Award for his contributions to
accounting education from scholarly endeavors in research and teaching. In 2003
Brown was listed by Business Finance magazine as one of the nation’s most influential
people. He is the author or coauthor of more than 80 publications, and he has
made more than 160 presentations at universities and professional conferences.
Larkins and Diaz were recipients of the award for Innovation in Accounting
Education for their paper, "Locating and Evaluating Tax Authority." The award
recognizes significant programmatic changes or a significant activity, concept, or set of
materials. It is designed to encourage innovation and improvement in accounting education.
Hannan received the award for Notable Contributions to Accounting Literature for her
paper, "Honesty in Managerial Reporting," which examines how preferences for wealth and
honesty affect managerial reporting. The award recognizes research of exceptional merit.
Criteria for the award include uniqueness and the potential magnitude of the contribution to
accounting education, practice, and/or future accounting research.
Introduction
to the World
Robinson’s cornerstone course,
"Managing in the Global Economy,"
shows the complexity of international
business and the way corporate functions
interrelate. This unique course was the
focus of a multipage feature in BizEd
magazine, the top business school trade
publication; the ar ticle was written by
four Robinson faculty members. The
course was also included in an ar ticle
in the Wall Street Journal about new
integrated curricula.
On the Economic Front
A fairly new Federal Reserve
chairman, rising oil prices, and
a slowdown in the housing market
meant a busy time for Rajeev
Dhawan, director of the Economic
Forecasting Center. Dhawan was
interviewed by USA Today, CNBCTV,
the Atlanta Journal-Constitution,
the Atlanta Business Chronicle,
the Christian Science Monitor,
CNN-TV, and WBT-AM radio
in Charlotte, N.C.
