One is the quintessential entrepreneur, the other a
man who has guided two organizations to the pinnacle
of success in the sport of baseball. Bernie Marcus not
only cofounded Home Depot, he also spearheaded
the development of the world’s largest aquarium. John
Schuerholz has been the general manager of two
world championship baseball teams, one of which, the
Atlanta Braves, also won 14 straight divisional titles.
Needless to say, both these men have much to offer
on the elusive concept of leadership and what it takes
to be successful. They share their secrets in this first
installment of the State of Business’s newest section,
"Lessons from Leaders."
