The Last Word: Beyond the MBA--The Appeal of Robinson's New Executive Doctorate in Business

Page 1 2

• Universities and academic institutions need to change. Most of the basic structures and traditions of today’s universities and academic institutions reflect 20th-century realities, with disciplinary silos and one-way delivery of candidates and knowledge to society. In a knowledge and service economy, universities must participate more actively in solving realworld problems. They must adopt interactive forms of knowledge creation that involve collaboration with other constituents in society.

• Robinson’s Executive Doctorate in Business is based on engaged scholarship. The Executive Doctorate program is different from a traditional PhD. The focus is on addressing contemporary business problems rather than specialized issues
within one academic discipline. Also, research is conducted in close interaction with business professionals, thus contributing to practical problemsolving as well as theory. Such engaged scholarship helps participants become practitioner researchers and thereby improve their executive skills.

'We have engaged some of the very best scholars at Robinson to implement the new program. To make the program a success, we will continue to need participation of visionary executives...'
Our Executive Doctorate program is therefore an exciting meeting place for business executives and research professors to grow individually and contribute to the transformation of society. We have engaged some of the very best scholars at
Robinson to implement the new program. To make the program a success, we will continue to need participation of visionary executives with ambitions to go beyond the MBA. We look forward to hearing from you and exploring how you could participate in this exciting project.
