Tapping Robinson's Real
Estate Community
Dear Alumni and Friends,
The J. Mack Robinson College of Business comprises many communities, both internally and externally. One
of the strongest of these communities, encompassing students, faculty, and business leaders, is our real
estate group. In this issue of State of Business we turn to this "community" and focus on
a discipline that is one of the strongest parts of the Robinson curriculum.
As you will read, the Robinson College considers the knowledge of real estate an essential part of the
business process.
Under the direction of Julian Diaz, the Robinson Real Estate Department is one of the largest free-standing
departments in the world, with a full range of degree programs. Its master's of science program is
accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, regarded as the highest international real
estate professional designation available. The Department has also created a partnership with the Atlanta
chapter of the Real Estate Investment Advisory Council (REIAC) for various projects including the
establishment of a Hall of Distinction, honoring some of Atlanta's premier real estate professionals.
In this issue we harness the power of our real estate community to bring you insights on what's shaping
the future of the real estate business, including the overarching trends toward multi-use properties and
intown development. Featured are some of the most powerful figures in real estate business in this city
and around the world. You'll read interviews with noted architect John Portman, the President and CEO of
Cousins Properties Tom Bell, Robinson alum and downtown champion Richard Bowers, and other Robinson alumni
who are directly or indirectly involved in the real estate business. Noted residential real estate leader
Jenny Pruitt pens the "To the Point" column. Rajeev Dhawan gives his insights on real estate and
the economy.
We hope you enjoy this issue and will send us your comments. Also, for the latest Robinson news go to our
