Can You Hear Me Now?

That’s going to be the issue.” - Perry Binder, Associate Professor of Legal Studies at RobinsonIt’s happened to everyone. You hear a phone and wonder if it’s yours. But in recent years, customizable ringtones have helped solve that problem. That is until everyone uses the same song. But in the booming ringtone market, some have used the internet to figure out how to bypass the per-song charge and customize a ringtone using their personal music collection. While the recording and mobile-phone industries yell foul, users argue otherwise. “This is an unsettled area of law that hasn’t been challenged in court,” Perry Binder, associate professor of legal studies at Robinson, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “The true issue is: Can I take my CD that I bought, put it on my phone and say it’s a fair use of what I bought? The recording industry would say no, it’s not a fair use. That’s going to be the issue.”

Two Thumbs Up for New Coke CEO

When it comes to leadership, James Senn, director of Robinson’s Center for Global Business Leadership, knows what he’s talking about. So when the Coca-Cola Company announced that Muhtar Kent, the company’s president and chief operating officer, would succeed Neville Isdell as CEO, many wondered if this was the right move. Senn told Reuters News that the elevation of Kent was no surprise given his increased visibility with the media and Wall Street, and it shows that the company was “back on track” in terms of succession planning. “There are potholes but Kent and Isdell have the company moving forward. I believe Muhtar Kent will keep that energy moving and probably even raise the bar on it.”
