Jim Copeland is chief executive officer of Deloitte & Touche in the United States and its global parent, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.

He joined Deloitte Haskins & Sells in 1967, and in 1975 organized one of the firm's first emerging business services groups to serve rapidly growing businesses. He was admitted to the partnership in 1977, named partner-in-charge of the Atlanta office in 1982 and named area managing partner in 1985. He was selected as vice chairman of Deloitte & Touche in 1992 and was elected as managing partner by the U.S. partners in 1994.

Copeland currently serves as a member of the board of directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the U.S.­Japan Business Council and has been a member of the Society of International Business Fellows since 1983.

His directorships and affiliations also have included chairman of the board of the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta; president of Research Atlanta; president of the Alumni Association of Georgia State University; and president of the Advisory Council to the Georgia State School of Accountancy.

In 1990, Copeland received the Jewish National Fund's Tree of Life Award for outstanding community service, and in 1992 he was the first recipient of the Logan Award, recognizing 20 years of service to the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta.

Copeland is a 1967 graduate of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business. He was named Georgia State's Distinguished Alumnus in 1991, serves on Robinson's Board of Advisors, and was inducted into the Georgia State Business Hall of Fame in 2000.
