ACCOUNTANCY

R. Lynn Hannan, assistant professor, was recently awarded the 2003 Glen McLaughlin Prize for Research in Accounting Ethics for her paper, "Managing Impressions: The Effect of Non-Contractible Information on Honesty in Managerial Reporting," co-authored with Frederick W. Rankin at Washington University and Kristy L. Towry at Emory University.

COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS

The participants of BrainLab were invited to Wired magazine's NextFest (San Francisco, May 14-16) to present their research in brain-computer interfaces. Participants included Melody Moore, assistant professor, Dr. Brendan Allison, Adriane Davis (Ph.D. student, CIS) and Umang Dua (MS student, GT computer science).

FINANCE

Vikas Agarwal, assistant professor, presented a research paper titled "Flows, Performance, and Managerial Incentives in Hedge Funds," co-authored with Naveen Daniel (Robinson College of Business) and Narayan Naik (London Business School).

Agarwal also presented "Risks in Hedge Fund Strategies: Case of Convertible Arbitrage," co-authored with Yee Cheng Loon (Robinson College of Business) and Bill Fung and Narayan Naik (London Business School) at the FMA European conference in Zurich in June.

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

Bijan Fazlollahi, professor, delivered an invited lecture titled, "Soft Computing Methods in Management of Business and Economic Processes" at the ICCI international conference. The sponsors of the conference included Georgia State University, IEEE and Siegen University of Germany.

MANAGEMENT

Edward W. Miles, associate professor, was an invited lecturer at the Berufsakademie-Stuttgart in Germany in May. He presented a three-week program on negotiating across cultures.

Todd Maurer, professor, recently received the Outstanding Human Resource Development Scholar Award from the Academy of Human Resource Development in recognition scholarly productivity and influence in the profession. He was also recently elected as fellow of both the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the American Psychological Association for outstanding and unusual contributions to the field. In April, he presented research that won the Sidney Fine Award for research on analytic strategies for studying jobs.

MARKETING

Associate professor Chip Barksdale's spring "Marketing Problems" class won the General Motors Marketing Internship Scholastic Achievement Award given to the top school in the Southeast Region for marketing strategy. This was the first time the Robinson College had taken part in the program.

Chip Barksdale, Danny Bellenger, professor and Marketing Department research fellow, Jim Boles, associate professor, and Tom Brashear (former doctoral student) won the 2003 Marvin Jolson Award from the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management for Best Contribution to Selling and Sales Management Practice.

Wesley Johnston, CBIM RoundTable Professor of marketing, was appointed an inaugural Institute for the Study of Business Markets (ISBM) fellow, a recognized senior scholar/thought leader.

Kofie Dadzie, associate professor, has been appointed to a three-year term as editor of the Journal of African Business.

Pam Ellen, associate professor, was elected to a three-year term on the Academic Council of the American Marketing Association.

Ken Bernhardt, Regents' Professor, Marketing Department chair and Taylor E. Little, Jr. Professor of Marketing, has been appointed to the executive advisory board of the Atlanta chapter of the American Marketing Association.

George Moschis, Alfred Bernhardt Research Professor, presented "A Study of Stress and Changes in Consumer Behavior" at the Asia-Pacific Conference of the Association for Consumer Research on May 13-15 in Seoul, Korea.

The Robinson College's 6th Annual Women in Business Leadership Forum on May 11 was attended by over 100 students, faculty, staff and sponsors. Co-chairs for the event were Maryann Wysor, associate director, business communication programs, and Beverly Langford, instructor.

Associate professor Pam Ellen's "Marketing Research" and "Marketing Intelligence" classes have completed projects for several area nonprofits during the past year, including 7 Stages Theatre, Trees Atlanta and GSU Basketball.

RISK MANAGEMENT AND INSURANCE

William Custer, associate professor, and Patricia Ketsche, assistant professor, Institute of Health Administration, are completing two years with the Georgia Health Policy Center on a study of health insurance coverage in Georgia. They have been co-principal investigators on a survey of over 10,000 households and a survey of Georgia employers.
