The Center for Business and Industrial Marketing was established in 1996 to provide a unique forum to research and explore the progressive world of business-to-business, or "B2B," marketing. The center uses this research to:
Currently, the center's efforts focus on four key topics: marketing strategies and operations, buying strategies and operations, channels of distribution, and transportation and logistics. The center is affiliated with the Institute for the Study of Business Markets (ISBM) of Penn State University.
The executive director of the Center for Business and Industrial Marketing is Dr. Wesley Johnston, CBIM RoundTable Professor of Marketing at Georgia State University. Dr. Johnston joined the GSU faculty in 1991. Dr. Johnston was previously on the faculties of the University of Southern California and Ohio State University, and he has been a visiting professor at institutions around the world. Dr. Johnston is also the editor of the Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing.
Karl Hellman is executive-in-residence at CBIM. Karl has over 20 years’ experience as a sales and marketing consultant for companies such as Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Capital One Bank, UPS, Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola and Telefonica. In addition to his book The Customer Learning Curve, he is well-published in the marketing world and has authored articles appearing in Marketing Management, Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing, Association of International Product Marketing and Management, Marketing News and others. Karl has a BA in Economics from Beloit College and a master's in Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences from Northwestern University, and is a doctoral candidate in the Georgia State University Executive Doctorate Program.
Director of planning and programs and adjunct professor of marketing for the center is Dr. Larry Marquit. Dr. Marquit was previously the vice president of human resources for Neutrogena Corporation. He holds a doctorate in behavioral sciences from Syracuse University.
