March 18, 2009 - (ATLANTA) - Jon Vilma, an NFL linebacker who wears number 51 for the New Orleans Saints, will speak on the "ABCs of Financial Literacy" today at Georgia State University's Rialto Center for the Arts. The program will occur at 6:30 p.m. as part of a financial summit presented by the Atlanta student chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting. The School of Accountancy at Georgia State's Robinson College of Business is an event sponsor.

Vilma received his finance degree from the University of Miami, where he was an Academic All-American. Since joining the National Football League (NFL), his on-the-field honors include being named Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press and being selected to play in the Pro Bowl.

Off the field, Vilma's accomplishments include creating and leading Financial 51, a non-profit organization with a mission "to assist others in building a solid financial foundation and giving them the power to make sound financial decisions." Its purpose is a dual one: to ensure that "athletes understand the difference between a big paycheck and financial wealth; and educating youth, the leaders of tomorrow, about the importance of understanding and managing credit."

Vilma also is a board member of Play It Smart, an educational outreach program sponsored by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame to help student-athletes take responsibility for their futures through lessons learned on the playing field, in the classroom and in service to others.

Other topics that will be covered at the summit include "Interviewing 101," presented by Angela Vaughn, a campus recruiter for Ernst & Young.
