International Education Week coming to Robinson November 12-16

ATLANTA – International Education Week is coming to Georgia State University and the J. Mack Robinson College of Business November 12-16. GSU’s Center for International Business Education and Research (GSU-CIBER) will be presenting globally inspired activities to engage students in cultural awareness.

Featured activities include:

November 13-14, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Student Center

The Global Village Festival, a combined effort between GSU-CIBER, Georgia State’s Chapter of AIESEC, an international student-run organization focused on youth leadership development, and the Middle East Socio-Political Association (MESPA), a student organization that promotes cultural awareness and understanding of the Middle East. The village will provide students and recent international travelers with an opportunity to share their cultural experiences. Tables will display artifacts, native cuisine and general information about countries and their cultures. Over 20 countries are proposed to appear this year, including Brazil, China, Egypt, France, India, South Africa, South Korea and Turkey.

November 16, 3-5 p.m., Manners Room (Room 710, RCB)

Announcement and Inauguration of the team selected for the First Annual Case Challenge Competition for GSU-CIBER’s Southeast Consortium for International Business Education Students. Undergraduate students who have taken BUSA 3000 are eligible. To apply, submit a cover letter and resume by Friday, November 2 to gsuciber@gsu.edu. November 16, 3-5 p.m., Manners Room (Room 710, RCB)

Reception and Award Ceremony for winners of the undergraduate photo and essay competitions. The reception will honor finalists whose work will later be featured in GlobalAtlanta, an international business portal.

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. It is part of their efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. It was introduced in 2000 and today is celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide.

Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBERs) are resources for international business education in the United States funded through the United States Department of Education. The centers were established in 1988 as part of the Omnibus Foreign Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988. There are CIBERs at 33 universities in the United States.

GSU-CIBER strives to address 21st century needs for U.S. global business competence by transforming business school curriculum, assisting business faculty and practitioners to acquire global competence, enhancing student opportunities for study and work abroad, and carrying research to enhance U.S. business competitiveness in the global marketplace.
