ATLANTA – Students wishing to submit scholarly or artistic work for consideration in the upcoming Georgia State Undergraduate Research Conference (GSURC) must turn in proposals by 5 p.m., Jan. 31.
Students can submit proposals at gsu.edu/gsurc, where rules and guidelines for proposals and works are available. GSURC will be held March 13 at the Student Center, 44 Courtland St. NE.
Work submitted to GSURC can include posters, oral presentations and artistic displays.
GSURC is implemented by Georgia State’s Honors College, and is an important part of the student learning experience at the university, fitting in with the university’s strategic plan to advance education.
“Student participation in faculty-mentored research, or their own independent research, develops the critical thinking and writing skills that are essential to success in college and in life,” said Sarah L. Cook, associate dean of the Honors College and professor of psychology.
Undergraduate research is especially important to students who may wish to pursue further education in graduate school.
“Students who aspire to attend graduate or professional schools find that their research experiences are often crucial to successful applications,” Cook said. “But of course, research skills are crucial in many of the occupations our students pursue.”
This year’s GSURC has direct student involvement through a student planning committee, with members nominated by faculty, and a representative GSURC faculty advisory board from every college at Georgia State.
