Schedule of Online RCB Courses
J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University
June 5, 2008

The following courses are online courses, indicated in the remarks column in the schedule of classes. These courses are conducted primarily online, which means that students and the instructor meet in synchronous discussion over the Internet during the scheduled class periods, in WebCT Vista or in vClass. Some courses may have asynchronous activities, as indicated in the syllabi. Links to syllabi appear in the day/time column. This schedule is subject to change depending on resource availability.

If a course has a face-to-face session for its first meeting, its location appears in the table below. These first-day locations supersede those listed in the Schedule of Classes. After the first face-to-face session (if any), students may join class sessions from anywhere they have adequate Internet access, e.g., home, work, or GSU student lab. Information about readiness for taking online courses, computing skills for online courses, and machine configurations appears below this schedule

Self Assessment for Readiness for Taking an Online Course

Online courses are different. They are designed with the assumption that students are ready to participate in a virtual class environment in which the interaction with other students and the teacher occurs over the Internet rather than face to face. This interaction can be very rich and intense because participants have the opportunity to edit their comments before submitting them and because there are more opportunities to participate.

Computing and Internet Skills and Access to Facilities

In addition to their customary prerequisites, online sections also have Computer Skills Prerequisites 7 Basic Internet Usage and 8 Advanced Internet Usage. Taking these courses requires use of a computer with access to appropriate software and an Internet Service provider (ISP).

WebCT Vista : Some class sessions may be conducted in WebCT Vista, which is a learning management system that supports synchronous discussion in text chat, web presentation of course materials, student publication of work to course web sites, electronic bulletin boards, and other features for web courses. To configure your machine for Vista, follow the links on this configuration page. Documentation for Vista includes a getting started page and a tutorials page. is available by selecting Student Guides and Documentation from the Student Resources page.

Elluminate vClass: Some class sessions may be conducted in Elluminate vClass, a collaboration environment that supports talk, text chat, whiteboard use, and application sharing with other participants. Participants joining a vClass session in GSU facilities such as CS 305 and the student labs must bring their own headsets with USB jacks to connect through the USB port on the front of the machines. While on campus, on-line session participants can check out laptop/tablet computers from the Aderhold computer lab to use with their headsets or bring their own laptop/tablet computers. Workstations in student labs are already configured to use Elluminate, which requires Java. To use Elluminate from your own machine, go to Elluminate's configuration page to download Java and check your machine configuration ("Trying to get ready for a class or Elluminate session? Click here"). For documentation on using Elluminate, select this page.

Information Technology Access

Effective fall 2000, students taking courses in the Robinson College of Business are responsible for providing the computer and Internet access that they need to complete the courses, as explained in the RCB policy on information technology access and skill requirements.
