Nikkei Real Estate Finance Forum Features Gibler Speaking on Corporate Real Estate Management
Atsushi Saito, President and CEO of the Tokyo Stock Exchange Group Inc., welcomed Dr. Karen M. Gibler as the featured speaker at the Nikkei Real Estate Finance Forum in Tokyo on December 3. Dr. Gibler spoke to the crowd of 500 about corporate real estate management, then participated in a panel discussion on the topic. Dr. Yuichiro Kawaguchi of Waseda University moderated the panel, which was sponsored by ARES, the Association for Real Estate Securitization.
Gibler Conducts Corporate Real Estate Management Workshop for ARES in Tokyo
Dr. Karen M. Gibler conducted a 2-day workshop on corporate real estate management for 30 members of ARES, the Association for Real Estate Securitization, in Tokyo on December 4 and 5. Dr. Masaki Mori, Ph.D. graduate from GSU and Assistant Professor at the International University of Japan, helped coordinate Dr. Gibler's visit to Japan.

Selig Inducted into REIAC/GSU Hall of Distinction
The Southeast Chapter of the Real Estate Investment Advisory Council (REIAC), in conjunction with Robinson's Real Estate Department, inducted S. Stephen Selig III into the REIAC/GSU Hall of Distinction on Thursday, November 15 at the Westin Buckhead.
Selig, President and Chairman of the Board of Selig Enterprises Inc., has developed a number of high-profile projects across the Southeast, including 12th & Midtown. The program included a discussion about the past, present and future of the Midtown Mile market and the impact of 12th and Midtown on the area.
This recognition is the highest honor given by REIAC, an exclusive organization made up of high-level leaders in the real estate investment and finance industry. Previous honorees include Novare Group President Jim Borders and Jim Jacoby, president of Atlantic Station LLC and Chairman, CEO and Founder of Jacoby Development. Photos of the "Hall of Distinction" honorees are displayed on the 14th floor of the Robinson College building.
REIAC Dintinguished Lecture and Career Networking Reception Has Occurred

Korean Housing Officials Visit
Karen Gibler and Frank Whittington, Director of GSU's Gerontology Institute, hosted 15 Korean government officials in Atlanta on September 5. Real estate Ph.D. students SeungHan Ro and Changha Jin served as interpreters for the discussion on seniors' housing and services in the U.S. and a tour of Park Springs retirement community.

Rabianski works with CCIM instructors
Joseph Rabianski was invited as a curriculum development consultant to attend the Instructor Workshop of the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) Institute in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin in July. Dr. Rabianski evaluated a Case Study of Commercial Property Development and served as a judge of the presentations of the case study developed by teams of CCIM instructors.

IRES Board Meeting In Macau
In addition to attending the International Real Estate Society Board of Directors meeting, Dr. Gibler presented a paper, "Movement of Older Americans into Retirement Housing," at the Asian Real Estate Society/AREUEA international meeting in Macau in July 2007.
Gibler Elected President Of The International Real Estate Society
Dr. Gibler was elected to serve as president of International Real Estate Society for 2009 at the recent IRES meeting in Macau. IRES in an umbrella organization for the sister societies of the American Real Estate Society, European Real Estate Society, Asian Real Estate Society, Pacific Rim Real Estate Society, African Real Estate Society and the Latin American Real Estate Society.
MIRES Network Meeting
In June Dr. Gibler traveled to Alicante, Spain, for the second meeting of MIRES, (Migración de Retirados Europeos en España) Research Network, funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia.
Visit to Nürtingen-Geislingen University
The real estate faculty at Nürtingen-Geislingen University in Germany hosted Dr. Gibler's visit in June to discuss possible educational exchanges. The trip was funded by a Robinson College of Business Reachout Internationalization Grant.
Gibler Visits Finland
Hesinki University of Technology invited Dr. Gibler to serve as a visiting professor during the month of June. Her main duties were to advise masters and doctoral students on their research projects and conduct the KIRSU Graduate School for Real Estate, Construction and Planning Doctoral Studies Workshop. She also attended meetings with TEKES, NordicFM, KTI, Ruukki and Rakli.
ERES Meeting In London
Dr. Gibler chaired a session and presented a paper, "The Impact of Retiree Migration on Housing Markets. A European Experience," at the European Real Estate Society meeting in London in June.
GSU Hosts Nürtingen-Geislingen University Student
Sebastian Merkle, a senior majoring in real estate at Nürtingen-Geislingen University, spent 2 weeks in Atlanta researching his senior thesis. He will present his final paper on a comparison of American and German residential leasing practices to the faculty at his university in July.

Gibler Re-elected to IRES Board
Karen Gibler was re-elected to a 3-year term on the International Real Estate Society Board of Directors. The next board meeting will be held at the Asian Real Estate Society meeting in Macau in July.
Annual ARES Meeting
GSU was well-represented at the American Real Estate Society meeting in San Francisco. Professors Grissom, Gibler and Ziobrowski had papers on the program, along with graduate students Guo Chen, Sherwood Clements, Changha Jin, Kimberly Moon and Vivek Sah.
New Housing Journal
Karen Gibler has been asked to serve on the editorial board of a new housing journal, International Journal of Housing Markets and Analysis, being launched by Emerald Group Publishing.

Rabianski working with CCIM Institute
Joseph Rabianski has been retained by the Certified Commercial Institute Member (CCIM) Institute as a consultant for the redevelopment of their market analysis course and an integration of market analysis into the investment oriented courses. The CCIM designation acknowledges the individuals' training and knowledge in the areas of both commercial real property brokerage and real estate equity investment analysis.
Rabianski Moderates Panel for GSA
Joseph Rabianski organized and moderated an panel of speakers who hold professional designations in the real estate industry as a presentation to new employees, interns and coop program students at the US Government's General Services Administration, Atlanta Region 4 Southeast US. NAIOP Grant for Rabianski
Joseph Rabianski received a small grant from the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP) to conduct a study of mixed-use development. NAIOP is an association of property developers, managers and owners.
Gibler's work in Spain reported in El Dominical
Dr. Gibler's fall visit to Spain was covered in an article in El Dominical that described the results from the REVIcVAL survey of German retirees living in Spain.

Real Estate Department Honors CEO of Novare Group
Last year, the real estate department partnered with the Real Estate Investment Advisory Council (REIAC) to establish the REIAC/Georgia State "Hall of Distinction." This year's honoree is Jim Borders, CEO of Novare Group. Mr. Borders was honored on Oct. 23rd at an event that recognized him for the impact that he and his commercial real estate projects have had on metro Atlanta. Ed Baker, publisher of the Atlanta Business Chronicle and newly-elected member of Robinson's Board of Advisors served as the "distinguished lecturer" for the evening.
Jim Jacoby, President of Atlantic Station LLC and Chairman, CEO and Founder of Jacoby Development, who was the first member inducted into the "Hall of Distinction" last year, presented Mr. Borders with the award at REIAC's quarterly meeting on November 2.
