Matan Becker, Master of Science in Analytics ’18, chose the Robinson College of Business for his graduate studies because he wanted to sharpen his coding skills and learn in-depth modeling, machine learning and predictive analysis, all while being close to big businesses located in Atlanta.
Mission accomplished. In his first semester, Becker landed a data science internship with the travel commerce platform, Travelport.
“They just threw me out into the fire. It was a sink or swim atmosphere,” Becker said of his internship.
At Travelport, Becker used machine learning, econometrics and operations research to help the company reach their goal of providing sub-second search results.
“I literally got to jump in, learn new systems I’ve never used before and use real data to come up with insights to improve the number one thing the company is trying to achieve,” he said.
In his second semester, Becker dug deeper into the math behind big models and applied his newfound knowledge in M.S.A. program Insight Sprints, in-depth projects in which students work with data to solve complex business problems.
All of this made him more competitive in the job market, helping him join The Home Depot, where he is now a senior data analyst. “This program gives you the mathematical know how, the professional experience, and the partnerships with businesses gives you the exposure to showcase your skills to employers.”
