All Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration scholarships are selected by the Scholarship Committee from a pool of students nominated by Faculty.
Atlanta Concierge Society Kevin Roach Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship, in memory of a dedicated and stellar hospitality professional, Kevin Roach, and funded by the professional association for hotel concierges in Atlanta, is presented to a hospitality major who has hospitality career aspirations and has demonstrated a commitment to quality service. Selection is also based on academic achievement, work experience and extracurricular involvement.
Atlanta Hospitality Alliance Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Atlanta Hospitality Alliance. This Alliance provides a forum for networking and professional development for Atlanta-area hotel owners, developers, operators, franchisors and professional service providers. This scholarship is presented to a hospitality major based on career interest in hotel development or management, academic achievement, school and community involvement, and work experience.
American Hotel & Lodging Association Educational Foundation Cecil B. Day Memorial Scholarship
In 1981, a scholarship fund was established in memory of Cecil B. Day from the Cecil B. Day Investment Company with a $500,000 contribution. To-date more than $800,000 in scholarships has been awarded to 702 students.
American Hotel & Lodging Association Education Foundation Rama Scholarship for the American Dream
JHM Hotels, Inc. established the Rama Scholarship for the American Dream with a $1,000,001 endowment. The five Rama brothers, principals in the company, emigrated from India to pursue their American Dream. It began with the ownership of one lodging property and grew into a successful operation of 40 properties with 6,520 rooms and more than 1,500 associates. The fund, established on the 25th anniversary of the brothers’ first hotel purchase, encourages others to create their own American Dream. Participating schools select the recipients and preference is given to students of Asian-Indian descent and other minority groups as well as JHM Hotel employees. Since its inception in 1998 the Rama Scholarship Fund has awarded $631,300 in scholarships to 388 recipients.h4>2019 Recipients
Cecil B. Day Scholarship in Hospitality Achievement
This scholarship was established in memory of the founder of Days Inns and the namesake of the School of Hospitality. It is presented to a hospitality major based on academic achievement, school and community involvement and work experience.
Hotel Equities Scholarship
Located in Atlanta, Hotel Equities is a full service hotel management company, providing awarding-winning management, development and consulting for hotels throughout the United States. The founder of Hotel Equities is GSU alumnus, Fred Cerrone. This scholarship is based on academic achievement, career goals, work experience and school and community involvement.
Hunter Realty Scholarship in Hotel Development
This scholarship was established by Hunter Realty, a leading hotel broker since 1978. In addition to recognizing academic performance and work experience, preference is given to students with career plans in hotel development and double-majors in hospitality and real estate or finance.
John Jordan Scholarship in Hospitality Club Management
This scholarship was established in honor of John Jordan, a national leader in the private club industry. Jordan was the general manager/CEO of the Cherokee Town and Country Club for over 46 years. During his career, he was elected president of the Club Managers Association of America. This scholarship is presented to a hospitality major based on career interest in club management, academic achievement, school and community involvement, and work experience.
North Point Hospitality Group Scholarship
North Point Hospitality Group, Inc., based in Atlanta, was founded in 1978 by JK Patel. The company owns, develops, and manages brand defining hotels in key business markets and leisure destinations. JK Patel’s son, S. Jay Patel, is the President and CEO of North Point. Under his leadership, the company has experienced significant growth to their portfolio based on the philosophy of being in the best markets with the best brands at the best locations. This scholarship is based on academic achievement, hotel career aspirations, work experience and leadership in student organizations.
Robert R. King Memorial Scholarship in Hospitality & Tourism
This scholarship is in memory of Robert King, a leader in Georgia’s hospitality industry as president of the Georgia Hospitality and Travel Association. It is presented to a hospitality major based on academic achievement, school and community involvement, and work experience.
Spurgeon Richardson Scholarship in Hospitality Leadership
This scholarship is in honor of Spurgeon Richardson, a well-known leader in Atlanta’s hospitality community. Richardson served as president and CEO of the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau for 17 years. In this role, he positioned tourism as one of the city’s top economic drivers and helped Atlanta develop into a world-class city. This scholarship is presented to a hospitality major based on academic achievement, school and community involvement, and work experience.
The Hyatt Regency Atlanta Hospitality Leadership Scholarship
This scholarship was established through a partnership by Hyatt Regency Atlanta for the hotel’s 50th anniversary celebration in May 2017 to provide opportunities for young leaders pursuing degrees in hospitality.
The Shelley Pedersen and Margie Dietz Hospitality Scholarship in Special Events Management
This scholarship was established in 2017 by The Allie Awards in honor of Shelley Pedersen and Margie Dietz to present to a hospitality major interested in pursuing a career in Special Events.
Margaret Lupo Scholarship in Restaurant Management
The Margaret Lupo Scholarship in Restaurant Management is in memory of Margaret Lupo, founder and owner of Mary Mac’s Tea Room. Margaret Lupo was a leading restaurant entrepreneur and known for her southern hospitality. It is awarded to a student who is majoring in hospitality with a restaurant management focus. Selection is also based on academic achievement, work experience and restaurant industry involvement.

This one-time scholarship was established in 2018 by Global Experience Specialists (GES) and International Woodworking Fair (IWF) in honor of one of their retired team members, Danny E. Harris.
