Livia Martins won’t graduate from Robinson’s MBA program until May, but her resume already contains the chops of an experienced professional. During the Panthers Accelerated Career Experience elective class, she and five classmates collaborated on a concept and prototype of a website overhaul for the Data & Technology practice of MHP – A Porsche Company. Over the course of six months, the team met weekly with MHP’s practice lead for data and technology, making data-backed suggestions on website enhancements including white papers and embedded social media feeds.
“We presented to the CEO, who plans to implement our recommendations,” Martins said.
In addition to interpersonal and presentation skills, Martins has developed proficiency in R and big data. In her Analytics Experience course with Charlotte Alexander, she analyzed an AirBnB data set on behalf of a hypothetical client looking to purchase a property in New York City. To help the customer buy a place with the highest profit potential, Martins explored what characteristics (examples: crime rate and number of bedrooms) drive rental popularity in certain areas.
“Every neighborhood generated different results,” she said.
After six months of preparing her resume and personal brand, Martins participated in Robinson’s Panthers on Wall Street program—an immersive four-day trip to New York City’s financial district. Martins toured nearly a dozen corporate headquarters, mingled with executives, and got the inside scoop on what companies look for in new hires.
Martins aims to become a consultant for a Big Four firm and feels confident about her prospects.
“It’s just a matter of time,” she said. “I’m very close to landing a job.”
