MISSION & VISION
Mission
We advance the computing and digital capabilities of the future by conducting new interdisciplinary research, engaging with strategic partners to solve real-world challenges, and educating the next generation of creative problem solvers.
Vision
Goal 1: Achieve international recognition for research on the development and application of advanced computational methods to address business and societal challenges.
The explosion of structured and unstructured data such as text, images, audio, and video, together with advances in computational methods and computing power and the emergence of new digital technologies, have created unprecedented opportunities for business and society. We aim to be at the frontier of knowledge development and application to realize this potential through interdisciplinary collaborations rooted in domain expertise and methodological innovation.
Strategy 1: Promote interdisciplinary areas of research that bring together our core group of computer science experts, data scientists, and engineering researchers together with management, legal and social science scholars to creatively understand and model business phenomena.
Strategy 2: Broaden our research capacity by including faculty appointments and affiliations who have research expertise in next generation technologies to ensure the college remains at the forefront of business research and relevance.
Strategy 3: Expand the computational infrastructure to support cutting-edge faculty research.
Strategy 4: Take advantage of the institute’s diverse faculty expertise to increase grants and sponsored research support.
Goal 2: Become a trusted resource for strategic partners by conducting applied research and creating implementable strategies that solve real-world challenges.
Our institute draws on its easily accessible location in the technology and innovation hub of the Southeast to provide applied, experiential opportunities for students, faculty, and external partners to experiment with analytics and A.I. technologies; generate discoveries; and co-produce creative, implementable solutions. We provide secure and advanced laboratories designed to enable collaboration with business and aim to become the leading resource on the application of advanced computational methods for our strategic partners.
Strategy 1: Increase the number and diversity of partners and more deeply impact the organizations with which we already partner.
Strategy 2: Become a reliable innovation partner for experimentation and development of prototypes.
Strategy 3: Expand partnerships across the university to create new research collaborations that apply computational advances across a broad range of subject areas.
Goal 3: Prepare students for success in the application of advanced computational methods in a collaborative, diverse environment with faculty, industry leaders and practitioners.
Our unique approach to collaborative learning with our industry partners and deep faculty expertise prepare our students for success as ethical data scientists. Through our rigorous and broad curriculum, our students develop expertise in data analytics, emerging technologies, problem solving, critical thinking, team work, leadership, and communication.
Strategy 1: Grow the opportunities for students to work in diverse teams with faculty, industry leaders, and practitioners on experiential and applied projects.
Strategy 2: Enhance internal and external opportunities for students to develop their innovative and entrepreneurial capabilities.
Strategy 3: Broaden access to data science methods to a wide community of learners from both technical and non-technical backgrounds.
Strategy 4: Keep building an innovative, dynamic, and future-driven curriculum to ensure our students are at the forefront of the marketplace.
