Bermuda Railway Trek
We are pleased to announce the 17th annual Bermuda Railway Trek will take place on Thursday November 19, 2020. Given the current environment and travel restrictions, we are continuing the tradition and spirit of this event by holding a walk in Atlanta at the same time as we are holding the walk in Bermuda. The Atlanta walk will start at 9:00 a.m., at Barcelona Wine Bar in Inman Park. The address is 240 North Highland Avenue Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30307. We are going to do an out and back and expect to arrive back at the Barcelona Wine Bar at 1pm, where McGriff will be hosting the post walk reception from 1:00 to 4:00 (see attached flyer)
Please plan to meet at Barcelona Wine Bar between 8:30 and 8:45 am so we can commence walking north on the trail at 9 am.
On Wednesday November 18th, CAC Specialty will be hosting a reception at their office; 3414 Peachtree Road, Suite 1000 Atlanta, Ga. 30326 from 5:00 to 7:00. Please rsvp to greg.mccollister@cacspecialty.com. Or call (404) 626-8378.
If you would like to participate in the walk, we would kindly ask that you respond to David Buechner (dbuechner@gsu.edu) and complete the attached Walker Form no later than Friday, November 13th. Please note a detailed email will follow for participants outlining additional details. As you might suspect, there will be some necessary changes from years past to ensure that all COVID protocols are followed. Donations are also welcome even if you are not able to participate in the walk this year. Remember, no donation amount is too small. Donation information is included on the form and can be made via the following link and selecting the Bermuda fund
In the event you have questions, please contact Greg McCollister (404) 626-8378 or Gary Meggs (770) 365-2324.
Please note that all COVID protocols will be adhered to.
Willis Towers Watson, CAC Specialty, McGriff, and Paragon Insurance Brokers along with many carrier sponsors continue to support the event.
As many of you know, the annual event was founded in 2004 by Gary Meggs and Greg McCollister to raise money to support insurance-related studies for young Bermudians. The walk supports Bermudians who pursue a Risk Management or Actuarial Science undergraduate degree at Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta, Georgia. GSU has the largest dedicated risk management program in the United States. It is ranked #1 in Actuarial Science Research for the second straight year and is the #4 ranked Undergraduate RMI program in the country per US News and World Report. Bermuda College now also has a collaborative and successful 2+2 program where Bermudians can attend two years of schooling locally and transfer to GSU as a third-year student.
To date the fund has awarded in excess of $230,000 in undergraduate scholarships and our goal is to exceed $250,000 this year. We need YOU to help continue our fundraising efforts, and we look forward to your participation in this year’s Railway Trek!
