- Biography
Soyoung Boo, PH.D., CED, DES, CHDM, CRMA, and CHIA, has extensive experience teaching at universities in the United States and South Korea, including George Washington University; University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Kyonggi University; and Jeju National University. Boo specializes in event management and meeting/exhibition management. She has substantial event planning experience in the private and public sectors. As a member of the event staff at a hotel and as a government officer, she managed and oversaw numerous types of events including corporate events, tourism festivals, sporting events, governmental meetings, and fundraising events.
Boo has published numerous events-, hospitality- and tourism-related academic articles in leading journals across the globe including in the Journal of Business Ethics, Tourism Management, Journal of Travel Research and Cornell Hospitality Quarterly. She has received Best Paper Awards at the Euro-CHRIE conference, the I-CHRIE conference, and the Global Events Congress. Her research concentration reveals the psychological and marketing aspects impacting tourism and hospitality industries including events and meetings. She brings a unique insight to event-related industries by applying statistical methodologies to uncover behavioral motivations, new revenue opportunities and crossover business models to improve overall event standards.
Dr. Boo serves as an editorial board member of several international journals related to the event industry, including the Journal of Travel Research, Journal of Travel & Tourism Marketing, Event Management, and Journal of Convention Event Tourism, and has served on the Convention Industry Council’s Accepted Practices Exchange Review Council, and has acted as a consultant for HVS.
